FAQ

How are your products made and what ingredients do you use?

We hand make all the products in a sanitary pet free and smoke free environment. We abide by the rules and regulations of Health Canada and we are also a professional member of the Soap and Cosmetic Association of Canada. Simple and quality ingredients and oils are used in all our products. Our products are not tested on animals (only human volunteers) and all products are paraben, SLS, and chemical free. For people with sensitive skin or allergies, always do a skin test before using the products.

How do I make the soaps last longer?

One of the most common questions we get is “How long does handmade soap last?” In a world filled with chemical cleaners, one of the most appealing things about handmade soaps and products is that they are made almost entirely from natural ingredients. It is amazing how the handmade soap just smells good, while the commercial bar smells like the fragrance was added in an effort to cover up the chemical odour.

There are two different life spans to consider. First, there is shelf life. This is the length of time you can expect your bar of soap to last if it is not used. The typical bar of handmade soap will have a indefinite shelf life if it is stored in a cool, dry and dark area. The scent will slowly fade over time as we use mostly essential oils in them. Any natural colorants (alkanet powder, madder root, oxides and ultramarines etc.) will fade as well. Because homemade soap retains all of the naturally occurring moisturizing glycerin (commercial soaps have this glycerin removed and sell you the glycerine as a by-product – think lotions), it is much more solvent. To ensure that your homemade bar last as long as possible, never let it stand in water. Make sure your soap dish allows the water to drain completely and away from the soap, allowing it to thoroughly dry out between uses.

A tip passed on by some of our customers: Our soap is sold in large bath sized bars (4 oz and above), take a large kitchen knife and cut the bar in half and keep one in a cool and dry area until you are ready to use it. We find that the average life-span is about 4 to 6 weeks. Larger households will need to replace it more frequently.

What about the shelf life of the other products?

Some of our products are made with beeswax (like our lip butter) and beeswax is a natural preservative. Our lip butter will last you at least 6 months if you use it daily and the shelf life is about 1 year. We add antioxidant with rosemary or Vitamin E, in our products to prolong the shelf life. It is however best if the products are used within one year of purchase or after it is made. We make our products in small batches to ensure freshness.

Can I expect every order to be identical?

Our products like lip butters, bath fizzies and body scrubs are made to order and we follow the same recipe/formula when we make them. This ensures that the products are new and fresh and they are not sitting on our shelves for weeks or months. Colors and designs like swirls in soaps will vary with each batch. Rest assured though that the products will have the same wonderful benefits and skin loving qualities because of the quality of ingredients used. How do I place an order? Feel free to browse through our website and add the products into the shopping cart accordingly. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. You can also email us if you have a custom order request.

Do you have a minimum order amount?

You can order one item/product or you can order in bigger quantities. We have found that shipping is more cost effective when you have more items in your cart. We usually ship with FedEx or Canada Post

Do you accept custom orders for weddings, events or special occasions?

We LOVE custom orders! If you have a wedding, corporate event or a special occasion coming up and need party favors, drop us an email at [email protected] to discuss your options.

How can I find out what my order status is?

A tracking number will be provided wherever available upon shipping. Please also feel free to contact us at [email protected]. Bath fizzies, lip butters, scrubs and soaps that have already undergone at least 4 weeks of curing will be shipped within 3 business days as long as they are in stock. Soaps typically take 4 weeks to fully cure and you can pre-order them to avoid disappointment. These soaps will be shipped as soon as they are fully cured.

Where do you ship?

We are based out of New Glasgow - a small town located just outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. We ship worldwide!! You will see however only the shipping rates for USA and Canada as there is sometimes a big difference in the shipping rates outside of North America. Please email us at [email protected] with your order and we will check the best rates for you and ensure that you are taken care of.

What is your return policy?

As these are bath and body products, we do not accept returns or exchanges if they have been used due to hygiene purposes. We price our products honestly for the ingredients we use and hence we are unable to accept returns like big box stores. We want to however make everything right and will gladly give you a credit to use towards another item in our store as long as you contact us as long as it is within reason.
